A Gist of College history
Baldwin institutions were founded in 1880 by the enterprise and generosity of
Mr. John Baldwin a missionary and a visionary, at No. 2 Alexandra Street with
the aim to provide schooling for English speaking Methodist children, went through
much hardship during the early years, plagued with paucity of funds and dwindling
Strength of children. It was on the brink of closure, When Mr. John Baldwin gifted
three thousand dollars to acquire land and buildings and keep it from closing.
In retrospect, the humble beginning of the Institution in 1880 with a few students
and minimum facilities stands in stark contrast to its present stature and dignity,
having global perspective and meeting the demands of specialization in the methods
of acquiring knowledge, with a view to improving the standard and quality of life,
thus redefining the role of education. The eleven Institutions under Baldwin
Methodist Educational Society are now a symbol of the triumph of tradition and individual talent
Baldwin Methodist College was started in the year 1988. We believe that noble qualities are the cornerstone of the college. We at the Baldwin Methodist College believe in promoting and developing a spirit of learning in an environment that fosters innovation and ethical education for the all-round development of our students. We endeavour to equip them to face the challenges of life and inculcate moral values and positive attitudes with a passion for excellence and for the good of the community as envisioned by our Founders. Our objective is to lay an internal foundation in our students and turn them into well-educated, disciplined and socially conscious citizens who will play prominent roles in the socio-economic, cultural and political development of our nation.
The sterling performance of our students year after year, bears testimony to the achievements of the institution. At Baldwin Methodist College we believe that there are no borders, boundaries or barriers in the quest for greater understanding and knowledge. The College motto – Reverentia Jehovah est Caput Sapientiae taken from book of Psalms from the Holy Testament, 'The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom' sums up the ideals of the college to meet the challenges of the world. The Watch Words-‘Righteousness and truth’ are the tied rocks of our foundation and continue to inspire the students at Baldwin Methodist College.
